Ronie Dinosaur Chapter 131 – The Fear of Solitude

He walks in fear of being left behind,
in fear of ending up alone.

Yet he walks alone-
and always remains alone,
no matter what.

Talking to myself,
I cursed myself two or three times
and hurled four or five at you-
and that is how life slipped away.

Then love finally came to you;
I swallowed the apology,
arguing with myself while speaking to you.

But the moment I recognised
the bitter character beneath the mask-
just hunger, unfed,
frustration piled high
in the name of protecting integrity-
I froze in place,
standing there,
drowning in regret, alone.

The irony is perfect:
the dread of solitude
is the very force
that guarantees it.

He quickens his step
to stay in the crowd,
but the crowd thins anyway.
He slows his step
to wait for someone,
but no one ever catches up.

So he keeps walking-
alone by choice,
alone by fate,
alone by character.

He shouts at silence and loneliness once more:
“Come on, you bastard,
let’s have at it one more time.”

Ronie Dinosaur
fears the empty road
and walks it anyway.
Solitude is alive-
so is Ronie.
