ABOUT THE POEM: The preceding text is a dense, philosophical declaration focusing on the nature of character and the unconquered spirit. It functions as a personal manifesto by an individual who calls himself "Ronie Dinosaur," asserting a powerful identity defined entirely by internal metrics rather than external success or comfort. The writer uses the metaphor of a derelict house, devoid of modern amenities ("electricity, plumbing, or comfort"), to establish a setting of extreme material poverty. This is the testing ground for the man with character. Even when reduced to the point of absurdity—"chasing houseflies and singing with mosquitoes"—the man is not defeated. This is the central thesis: true defeat is internal, not external. A key concept is the refusal of external validation. The character is defined by its refusal to accept victory "just because it would feel good," or, more profoundly, its refusal to take victory "from an opponent's hands." This suggests a commitment to a higher ethical standard where winning is meaningless if it compromises one's integrity or is contingent upon another's weakness. The ultimate act of self-possession is the dual promise: "neither surrender nor perform victory." This stance elevates dignity above all conventional ambitions. The text then delves into the nature of the inner self, describing it as a transcendent entity untouchable by the binary constraints of the moral world: "neither good nor bad," "neither sin nor virtue." This internal core is presented as an unchanging, almost spiritual sanctuary that "neither gets wounded nor grows," existing "without cost," yet preventing the man from being "reduced to cheap." This inner quality is the substance of character. The adoption of the persona "Ronie Dinosaur" is a potent literary device. The dinosaur, ancient and immense, symbolizes a spirit that is timeless, solitary, and fundamentally different from the present world. This unique greatness mandates isolation: "The one who has character, the greatest of all possessions, will always be alone." This solitude is not a lament but a proud consequence of having a value system that rejects the common ground. Finally, the writer identifies one thing greater than character: the 'Mann,' or heart/mind, described as being "beyond ego and greed." This 'Mann' is the ultimate sanctuary and guide. The text concludes by asserting that the only two things that ultimately matter and allow the walk of life to continue are lived experience (external knowledge) and the knowledge of one's character (internal knowledge). The entire piece is a profound meditation on autonomy, spiritual wealth, and the solitary, uncompromised self.

My house is built without electricity,
plumbing, or comfort.
Character is one such thing
that even if a man has no job,
even if he is reduced to
chasing houseflies
and singing with mosquitoes,

he still cannot escape it.

Even when he has no claim
over food or water,
he is not defeated yet.

Nor is he willing to win
just because it would feel good-
otherwise, that too would be
a waste of a man.

He will do neither:
neither surrender
nor perform victory.

When a man has character.

I say this not because I didn’t win,
nor because I could have won,
but because something in me
refused to take victory
from an opponent’s hands.

What do I know?
I was born only fifteen minutes ago.

It is costly.
But it prevented me from being reduced to cheap.
Only I know
how two small hands can lose an entire universe.

Neither action nor duty,
neither good nor bad,
neither sin nor virtue,
neither right nor wrong,
neither truth nor falsehood-
none of it touches the one inside.

It neither gets wounded nor grows.
It does not fall in love or hate.

It is within me, without cost.
It carries me with it,
and I with it.

It is my character-
the true will of my heart,
my soul.

But it is not the heart itself.
That is a different being.

I am not the dog who is simply barking these words.
I am the dinosaur itself. This is me.
I am Ronie Dinosaur.

The one who has character,
the greatest of all possessions,
will always be alone.

And there is one thing greater
than the greatest thing in this world:
my own heart-
my Mann.

Which is beyond ego and greed.

What would still be there if nothing worked?
The knowledge of lived experience, externally,
and internally, the knowledge of one’s character.

With them, I walk.
Ronie Dinosaur is walking.
