ABOUT THE POEM: Chapter 49 is not an attack on Buddha, nor is it an attempt to elevate the self above history. It is a measurement problem. It asks how different ethical structures behave under different environmental conditions. Buddha’s empathy arose in a world saturated with suffering. His insight required a field—people, animals, violence, ignorance—to respond to. His peace functioned as a stabilizing force within chaos. When Angulimala encountered Buddha, the encounter itself was the catalyst. Empathy flowed because there was a circuit: action, response, reflection. This chapter places that model under a different constraint. What happens when the circuit is broken? What remains when the world does not answer back—not with hostility, not with resistance, but with absence? The narrator’s loneliness is not social awkwardness or wounded pride. It is structural isolation. There is no audience, no enemy, no one to redeem or be redeemed by. Even nature—the dog, the insect, the plant—fails to appear as a moral mirror. The world does not resist. It does not collapse. It simply does not engage. This is why the doctor metaphor matters. Buddha without a suffering world is still complete, still whole. His ethic is preserved even when inactive. The narrator without a world is still required to function—to remain upright, to endure, to keep structure intact—without validation, reward, or meaning. The test here is not compassion. It is non-collapse. The critique of ahimsa is not nihilistic. It is mechanical. Nonviolence without the capacity for violence is not virtue; it is dependency. Peace that arises from fear is not peace. This is not a call to brutality. It is a demand for honest accounting of power. The chapter insists that intent alone is insufficient. Reality must bear the weight. Truth is not what feels noble; it is what survives contact with conditions. In this framing, the question “who peaks?” is not answered by moral height but by environmental severity. Empathy peaks where connection exists. Loneliness peaks where nothing answers. They are not rivals; they are responses to different worlds. The chapter’s power comes from refusing reconciliation. It does not ask the reader to choose Buddha or the narrator. It forces the reader to recognize that different structures endure under different pressures—and that not all endurance is visible, teachable, or socially useful.

Original and copies-
one slap lands on your cheek,
the other still pending, waiting to be offered.

That’s fake.
That’s not ahimsa; that’s cowardice.

The interpretation of knowledge is twisted.
People chase first-copy perfectionism
yet receive trophies as originals.

You fear me
because I do not fear you.
Why not?

That’s not the message.

It’s not about provoking someone-like a woman-
then blaming the man for being weak,
for reacting wrongly.

If that makes you happy,
go ahead.
But no one is a spare part.

That’s not why Buddha walked unafraid toward Angulimala.

The reason was the curiosity that stirred in Angulimala:
Why are you so at peace, utterly unaffected?

The reason was never fear.
The reason was peace.

Just as you would never crush a butterfly
or an ant simply because you’re angry
while they go about their ordinary lives-
that is freedom.
Angulimala was not free.
That is what redeemed him.

The answer.
Without a word, without a gesture,
Buddha delivered it.
The message passed through.

Buddha sought only to solve the problem,
not as a leader,
but as one human to another.

Anyone who acts for others
keeps those others bound to him.
Like the first-copy example-
he is called a leader, not a monk.

Now, Buddha’s empathy
and my loneliness:
which one, if measured,
would peak the highest?

Empathy requires a world that responds.
Loneliness is what remains when the world stays silent.

Siddhartha loved the bird, butterfly, insect,
plant, human, and ground, and everything.
Remove the world and Buddha would be like a doctor
in a hospital without a single disease in the world.
Add the world to mine and there is still no one or
remove whatever, no difference at all.

My problem is the opposite:
no dog, no cat, no insect, no plant,
no relation, no point of reference at all.

Yet I want to build this structure
sturdy enough to keep it from collapsing.

Be your own light-
and there is no god.
For that, he has my respect.
Everything else is illusion.

The life of a god and the life of an ant
are worth the same-
and yet, not the same.

I am not asking you to see the world,
from my point of view, that’s not even possible
by anyone.
I am just providing you my location.

He was higher some would say,
mine is harder-something only I know,
but why?
and then who peaks?

Intent is the only measure.
Reality is the scale.
Truth is the weight.

And Ronie Dinosaur is walking.
